Clay County Medical Center Celebrates Occupational Therapy Month

Updated: Jun 10
Clay County Medical Center (CCMC) is proud to recognize Occupational Therapy Month and celebrate the important role occupational therapists play in helping individuals live healthier, more independent lives.

Occupational Therapy (OT) focuses on helping people regain or improve the skills needed for everyday activities. Whether it’s getting dressed, preparing meals, returning to work, or participating in hobbies, occupational therapists work with patients to overcome challenges that impact daily living and independence.
At CCMC, occupational therapists provide personalized care to help patients improve fine motor skills, adapt to physical limitations, and build confidence in completing everyday tasks.
“Occupational Therapy is not just about rehabilitation,” said Shawna Pederson, Occupational Therapist at CCMC. “It’s about helping people get back to doing the things that give their life meaning. We’re here to support independence at every stage of life.”
While Occupational Therapy focuses on daily living skills and independence, Physical Therapy (PT) is centered on improving movement, strength, balance, and mobility. Physical therapists help patients recover from injury, surgery, and chronic conditions through targeted exercises and treatment plans.
“Physical Therapy helps people move better, and Occupational Therapy helps people live better,” said Austin Gillard, CEO of CCMC. “Together, these services make a powerful team that supports our patients’ physical and emotional well-being.”
Clay County Medical Center is grateful for its Occupational Therapy team and their dedication to helping patients achieve greater independence, improved quality of life, and successful recovery outcomes.
