Two CCMC Team Members Earn Certified Breastfeeding Specialist Certification

Clay County Medical Center is proud to announce that Megan Gfeller, MS, CCC-SLP, and Rebekah Sharp, BSN, RN, have earned the Certified Breastfeeding Specialist™ (CBS) certification.
The CBS certification, awarded by Lactation Education Resources (LER), recognizes healthcare professionals who have completed specialized training in breastfeeding management and support. The certification equips specialists with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for breastfeeding, support lactating families, and collaborate with healthcare teams to promote positive health outcomes for parents and infants.
To earn the certification, Gfeller and Sharp completed an intensive online educational program through Lactation Education Resources, followed by a hands-on skills training session in Pittsburg, Kansas. The certification process concluded with a comprehensive examination covering topics including anatomy and physiology, infant growth and development, positioning and latch techniques, counseling skills, and breastfeeding management.
With this additional training, Gfeller and Sharp are equipped to provide enhanced support and education to breastfeeding families throughout the communities served by Clay County Medical Center.
“I am honored to have earned the CBS certification and excited to further support families in their breastfeeding goals,” said Megan Gfeller, MS, CCC-SLP. “Breastfeeding is a vital part of infant health, and this certification allows me to advocate for breastfeeding while empowering mothers and babies with the most current and accurate information.”
Rebekah Sharp, BSN, RN, echoed those sentiments.
“The CBS certification reinforces my dedication to empowering parents through breastfeeding support,” said Sharp. “It is a privilege to work alongside families, helping them navigate challenges and achieve a positive breastfeeding experience.”
By earning this certification, Gfeller and Sharp join a distinguished group of healthcare professionals dedicated to promoting evidence-based breastfeeding practices and improving maternal and infant health outcomes.
