Continuing Education

Clay County Medical Center is committed to supporting professional growth through continuing education, certification courses, and workforce development opportunities. We strive to improve the quality of healthcare throughout North Central Kansas by providing affordable, quality, and convenient educational opportunities for healthcare professionals.​

Continuing Education Programs

  • Minimum class size of four participants required for most classes

  • Class sizes are limited

  • Registration is required

Verification Courses

Verification courses are available to CCMC employees working in departments where certification is required. An education payroll deduction agreement must be signed at enrollment when applicable.​

Cancellation Policy

Clay County Medical Center reserves the right to cancel educational offerings due to insufficient enrollment, instructor illness, or emergency circumstances. Participants will be notified if a cancellation occurs. Employees who do not cancel within the required timeframe or who fail to attend without an approved absence may be subject to the education payroll deduction policy.

Web-Based Continuing Education

Web-based continuing education through RNCeus and CareLearning is available to CCMC employees at no cost. Part 1 of BLS, ACLS, and PALS is available through the CareLearning platform. Employees may also enroll in in-person skills practice and testing conducted by authorized American Heart Association instructors.

Course Offerings

ACLS

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course is an American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care program designed to review, organize, and prioritize the skills and knowledge needed to manage cardiac arrest, recognize events leading to cardiac arrest, and provide post-resuscitation care.
CCMC offers ACLS through a blended learning format. Employees complete Part 1, the cognitive portion, through CareLearning. Parts 2 and 3, the skills practice and skills test, are completed in person with an authorized American Heart Association instructor.


Successful completion of all course requirements meets the standards for obtaining an AHA ACLS Provider certification. Employees must register for the skills checkoff through CareLearning and bring proof of course completion to class.

ACLS ECG & Pharmacology

The ACLS ECG & Pharmacology course provides participants with core knowledge of:

  • Basic electrophysiology of the heart

  • Normal ECG measurements

  • Recognition of basic arrhythmias

  • ACLS medications and routes of administration

  • Integration of pharmacology into ACLS algorithms

This course is not currently available through CareLearning.

CPR & AED with First Aid

The Heartsaver CPR & AED with First Aid course teaches emergency resuscitation techniques, AED operation, basic first aid, and the use of barrier devices.

 

Training includes:

  • Adult CPR

  • Child CPR

  • Infant CPR

  • AED use

  • Basic first aid response

This course is ideal for employees whose positions require CPR certification or emergency response training.

PALS

HeartCode® PALS is a web-based, self-directed program that teaches healthcare providers the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and prevent cardiopulmonary arrest in infants and children.
Using simulation-based learning, participants assess and treat virtual patients while applying clinical decision-making skills. Upon completion of the online coursework, participants must complete an in-person skills practice and testing session with an authorized American Heart Association instructor.


CCMC employees should contact the Education Department to have the course assigned through CareLearning and register for the required skills checkoff.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program prepares healthcare professionals to recognize, prevent, and manage neonatal emergencies.


Participants must complete the required self-study and online examination components before attending instructor-led skills training, simulation exercises, and debriefing sessions. The program focuses on evidence-based neonatal resuscitation practices and newborn stabilization.

S.T.A.B.L.E.

The S.T.A.B.L.E. transport education program focuses on the care of newborns following successful resuscitation and prior to transfer to a transport team.


Topics include:

  • Newborn assessment

  • Problem recognition

  • Stabilization techniques

  • Ongoing monitoring and management

The program is designed for healthcare professionals involved in neonatal care.

Telemetry Tech

The Telemetry Technician course provides the foundational skills necessary for identifying and interpreting electrocardiogram rhythms and understanding cardiac monitoring techniques. Lead Instructor: Lori Penner, RN, BSN, MBA

Trauma Nurse Core (TNCC)

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) provides trauma-focused education and psychomotor skills associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to trauma patients.


Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common mechanisms of injury

  • Recognize pathophysiologic changes associated with trauma

  • Perform trauma-focused patient assessments

  • Develop appropriate nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes

  • Implement evidence-based nursing interventions

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of trauma care
