Clay County Medical Center (CCMC) is pleased to announce that Valerie Binns, MD, will join its medical team as a general surgeon, further strengthening access to high-quality surgical care for patients in north central Kansas.

Dr. Binns is currently completing her general surgery residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine–Wichita, where she is in her final year of training. She earned her Doctor of Medicine with Honors Distinction from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a bioengineering specialty from Kansas State University, graduating with a near-perfect academic record.

Throughout her training, Dr. Binns has built a strong foundation in a wide range of general surgical procedures, complemented by certifications in both laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery. In addition to her surgical training, Dr. Binns was highly involved with the Wichita JayDoc Community Clinic, a student-run clinic serving uninsured patients, where she led volunteer coordination efforts and played a key role in clinic operations. Her dedication to service was recognized with the JayDoc Community Clinic Medical Student Volunteer of the Year Award.

Dr. Binns has also been active in surgical education and mentorship, serving as co-president of the Wichita Surgery Interest Group and as a lead mentor in a clinical anatomy program, where she helped prepare medical students for the operating room.

“I am excited for the opportunity to practice in a community-focused setting and care for patients closer to home,” said Dr. Binns. “Building relationships with patients and providing high-quality surgical care in a rural setting is incredibly meaningful to me, and I look forward to becoming part of the CCMC team.”

Outside of medicine, Dr. Binns enjoys mentoring students and staying engaged in lifelong learning, reflecting her passion for both education and innovation in healthcare.

Dr. Binns is expected to begin seeing patients at CCMC in 2026.
