Clay County Medical Center (CCMC) is pleased to have been awarded the Rural Hospital Equipment and Supplies Grant in the amount of $55,761 from the Patterson Family Foundation.  These funds will be used for 20 inpatient bed mattresses with a 500 lb. capacity, one bariatric patient bed with a 800 lb. capacity, two recliners with a 500 lb., and one bariatric recliner with a 880 lb. capacity. Additionally, grant funds will be used for two vital sign machines for our peri-anesthesia care unit (PACU).

Furniture for our acute and skilled patients requires specifically designed equipment that is safe and appropriate for all patients. CCMC has noted an increase in bariatric needs for our acute and skilled patients and an increase in the cost to rent these supplies. Safety for our patients and staff are our main concern. Well-structured and increased weight capacity beds and recliners with options for the ability to mobilize patients will assist in safe transfers and small steps to recovery.  New mattresses for the current furniture in our inpatient rooms is necessary as they approaching end of life expectancy.   With this updated furniture, CCMC inpatient rooms will remain equipped to provide for the activities of daily living and therapy options to work toward a successful discharge with no patient harm.

In addition, we requested two vital signs machines due to the growth in our surgical department. With the addition of our General Surgery coverage four mornings a week, we have seen continued growth in the amount of procedures we are performing and these vital signs machines would allow CCMC to be more efficient in our care both pre and post procedure.

The Patterson Family Foundation is a family-led foundation extending the legacy of Neal and Jeanne Patterson. The mission of the foundation is “Advancing health care, education, and strengthening communities, particularly in rural areas.” This is the third grant CCMC has received from the Patterson Family Foundation and we are thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to partner with them once again.
