Healthy Employee Month

The Wellness Committee at CCMC recognizes the workplace’s role in helping to create healthy employees. They’ve decided to nominate a CCMC employee as the ‘Healthy Kansas Hospitals Employee of the Month’. In October, the spotlight is on Radiology Technician Jen Bush.

How and when did you start training?

I became interested in my health in high school. Most of the women in my family have been perpetual dieters, me included. I still have to remind myself life is not about a number (I’m not defined by a number) but a lifestyle change. There’s always something to be thankful for and I count good health as a blessing.

How do you stay motivated?

My boys, Jonan and Jacob, are my motivation. I want them to make healthy choices for a lifetime so I need to set a good example for them. Accountability partners motivate me as well. It helps to know I’m not alone in my struggle. We’re all just a work in progress.

Any advice for beginners getting into fitness?

Start with small changes - one new habit at a time. I feel good about being me when I eat healthy and exercise. Having access to fresh fruits and veggies at work helps me with making the right choices. I enjoy working out with the morning crew in the Mark A. Chapman Wellness Center and swimming with the women on Monday nights. I enjoy walking the dogs with my husband Brandon and my boys. It’s good bonding time for us besides being good for our physical health.

What is your diet like?

I eat lots of veggies, fruits, lean proteins. I do have quite a sweet tooth, but all things in moderation. I enjoy gardening and canning which helps our family enjoy veggies all year.

What is your greatest achievement so far?

When I eat healthy and exercise. I feel better about being me. I have more energy, in a better mood, feel stronger, and am more confident. I’m just a work in progress but very blessed. I want my boys to make healthy choices for life too.
