Dedicated to Sister Mary Agnes Drees

Sister Mary Agnes Drees was from Salina, Kansas and was a Sister of St. Joseph who joined the community in 1949. Her education focused on European history and she was an excellent teacher of both high school and college students. In 1973 she established the Office of World Development and Peace in Topeka, Kansas and in 1983 the Center for Peace Concerns in Salina, Kansas. One of the members of the Salina peace Coalition of which Mary Agnes was an integral part, who had known her for ten years said she was at the center of almost everything going on in the peace and justice arena. "She always had a sensitive heart for people who were very poor or disenfranchised in some way. The peace movement was a natural place for her to serve others." Sister Mary Agnes's last hospitalization was on December 16 when the Peace Coalition had a peace walk. She was dedicated to making peace in the world and had many friends who missed her when she died on January 1, 1991.
