| When
Linda Y. asked all of the cross stitchers on the Four Oaks Forum, on the internet,
if there were any people that would be willing to make a quilt square for a Hospice
fundraiser in Kansas, I thought it was a wonderful idea. Unfortunately I didn't
see the post right away and when I did so many people had volunteered that I thought
I was too late to be a part of this great idea. Luckily, there was a square not
assigned, that I could stitch. I was very pleased that I was able to do one. It
is a very pretty design, by Stoney Creek, of a church stained glass window with
2 doves and flowers. It is so beautiful and truly worthy to be used for such a
cause. My square will be on 1 of 4 quilts to be raffled off for Hospice. My
reasons for doing a square are many. One is that the 1st Hospice in the United
States was in my home state of Connecticut, in New Haven in the year 1974. Ella
Grasso, who was a politician and soon to become Governor, was instrumental in
the Hospice program in Connecticut, and I wanted to honor her for her efforts. Secondly,
Hospice came into our home and took care of my husband who was dying of cancer.
They did a great job, sending caring people to look after him. There are others
that I have known that were cared for by Hospice and received great care. What
a wonderful organization it is to be so caring to let people spend their last
precious moments with dignity. It makes me happy to be able to stitch my quilt
square as a small token of gratitude for all Hospice does. Sincerely
