Hospice Quilt Dedication

I would like to dedicate this square to a very special person in my life - my father. In 1994, at the age of 57, my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His prognosis was very poor; the doctors said he had about 6 months to live. Well he wasn't about to give in that easily. He waged a valiant battle against the disease - he underwent a series of radiation and chemotherapy treatments, and then had surgery to remove part of the tumor. He lived long enough to see his youngest child get married and his first grandchild enter the world. At the end, when the cancer was in the final stages, my mom was able to keep him home and comfortable with the help of our local Hospice (St. Charles Hospice, Long Island, NY). The wonderful nurses and aides gave my mother and the entire family more support and assistance than they will ever know. They allowed my father to die with the comfort and dignity that he so deserved. I will forever be grateful to them. I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to contribute to this wonderful quilt project to benefit hospice.
