Volunteers are very important to Hospice care and a very special group of volunteers is Hospice Chaplains. We asked the chaplain for Meadowlark Hospice to share with us what it means to serve as our Hospice Chaplain.

"Who would have ever thought that helping people face death would make one feel more alive? Yet that has been my experience as a chaplain for Meadowlark Hospice. Whenever called upon, I enter into the death process, yet sharing the hope of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

It is a privilege I hold dear...ministering to people facing the end of their earthly lives, encouraging them and their families to draw their strength from the Lord.

Working with the Hospice staff and volunteers is also a great privilege. I have come to appreciate their devotion to people, enabling them to die with dignity, as painlessly as possible, in familiar surroundings, with those they love.

I think about dying a lot more than I used to, but I don't think of it in quite the same way now. Far from being morbid, it is such a meaningful time in which human life can be appreciated and valued for what is is: a gift of God."
