It's been a real joy to get to do this. Those girls from Hospice (Rita, Debbie, Kay, Brenda, and Katrina) were such a sweet part of our life last January. Bill always had a twinkle in his eye when he knew they were coming. They all made life for Bill and us those last days so much easier to bear. So it's with that in mind that I wanted to do this for Hospice. William Joseph "Bill" Mahin, Sr., the youngest child of Sam and Ellen Loring Mahin, was born July 19, 1931 on a farm three miles northwest of Courtland, Kansas. Bill, Sr. Attended John Brown country school and the Courtland schools graduating from high school in 1949. He then attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. Bill, Sr. Married Phyllis Russel on June 15, 1952 at Belleville, Kansas. To this union were born six children, Linda, Greg, Bill Jr., Susan, Shari, and Joel. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and a faithful keeper of the land. He always enjoyed tending to his many garden produces and looked forward to watching his grandchildren's many sporting events and activities. Bill always enjoyed a good cup of coffee and sharing stories with his many friends and relatives. After farming for 35 years, he was employed at the Republican Valley Cattle Feeders and Kansas Bostwick Irrigation District. While employed with the Irrigation District, Bill especially enjoyed tending to the diversion dam at Guide Rock, Nebraska and meeting his co-workers for lunch and conversion at the "Eating Tree". Bill, Sr. Was baptized and confirmed into the Courtland United Methodist Church on April 1st , 1945 where he continued his membership. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Clifford, brothers Clifford (Husky), Warren and sister Clarice Gant. Phyllis
