Many community education events are offered at a free or reduced price which is made possible by the Gustav H. & Adelia C. Meyer Education Endowment. | Breastfeeding
Education Class |
This class is for anyone who is pregnant and considering breast-feeding their infant. The class will discuss preparation for breast-feeding, successful breast-feeding strategies, and how to minimize common problems that may occur. The instructors are Kelly Otott, RN,CCE,CBE and Mary Jo Wurtz RN,CCE. The class is free and offered several times during the year.

| Prepared
Childbirth Class |
This class is aimed towards first time parents. However, because maternity care is constantly changing and improving, even those who have experienced childbirth will benefit. Participants will be updated on the latest trends and techniques that can enhance childbirth and the postpartum experience. A variety of teaching techniques and methods will be used. The class is taught by nurses certified in childbirth and breastfeeding education. The instructors are Kelly Otott, RN,CCE,CBE and Mary Jo Wurtz RN,CCE. Participants meet once a week for six weeks, from 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m.

| Eating to Your Heart's Content |
The purpose of this class is to educate the public on the recommended dietary changes to help achieve lower cholesterol levels and thus reduce the risk for heart disease. The class consists of two parts: a 2 hr class where participants are taught how to follow a low fat/low cholesterol diet, and a grocery store tour where participants receive hands-on instruction on how to read labels and determine what foods to include on a regular basis to achieve a healthier lifestyle. The class is offered Five times a year. The class fee is $5 for individuals and $8 for couples.

| Lifestyle Change & Weight Loss Program |
This program offers a step-by-step approach to nutrition and weight loss. Individuals will be assisted in designing an eating and exercise program to fit their lifestyle. The program emphasizes changes to achieve a healthier lifestyle through food choices, exercise, and stress reduction. Participants learn how to lower their risks for heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, etc.
The class is offered every January through May and consists of 16 weekly sessions. All persons enrolled are required to have a physicianÕs statement indicating approval to participate in a diet/exercise program. Participants may attend the first class with no obligation.

| Sports Nutrition Education |
Without a doubt, what you eat and when you eat affects athletic performance. A wisely selected sports diet helps you feel stronger, train harder and compete better. To assist you in achieving the target sports diet, Clay County Medical Center offers sports nutrition counseling. A registered/Licensed Dietitian, will provide detailed information on the best fuel for your body, fluid management, pre-competition meals, energy boosts, recovery foods, and weight management. Individual instructions are offered that include computerized nutritional analysis of your diet (fee associated) and group instructions are offered free of charge for high school athletic programs.
