2012 Employee Art Show
The CCMC Employee Art Show is on display from July 24-August 12, 2012. Paintings, photography, drawings, watercolors, textiles, jewelry, woodwork are located in the dining room and in the display case by the front entrance. Any person who is a current employee is eligible to participate.
“We all have our job title and tend to see our colleagues through the lens of what they do professionally. Art puts a whole different lens on who someone is – it reflects who they are outside of work”, said Marcia Newell, Executive Director of the Clay County Hospital Foundation.
Art connects people and allows us to see one another in a slightly broader way. With over 250 employees, the art show was one way to showcase a small portion of the talent pool that exists.

ABOUT THE ARTIST AND ARTWORK
I started shooting pictures in the early 60’s when I acquired my first SLR camera. I was a crew member on a Navy Minesweeper off the East Coast and my ship and Soviet Trawlers spent a fair amount of time harassing each other during what was a hot time in the cold war. The Russians were not trawling for fish, but were really trawling for electronic information from US ships. They were particularly interest in US nuclear submarines. It was our intent to make that task as difficult as we could, so we would position ourselves between the subs and the Russians and make as much noise and interference as possible.
Shooting pictures of the crew and ships, I wore out my first Minolta camera. Later on in my civilian and Navy Reserve days, I wore out another. I have a third Minolta film camera now, but I needed to join the modern world and switch to digital. Minolta did not make that transition well and now I sue a Nikon 60D. That is what I used for these shots. My camera is a lot better than the guy who uses it.

ABOUT THE ARTIST AND ARTWORK
One of my fondest memories of childhood was watching my Grandmother, Audrew Thornton quilt. She didn’t have the luxury of choosing new fabric from the dry goods store. She would clip the buttons off of shirts and blouses (for later use) and salvaged the useable material for quilt blocks. The size of the block was often small as she used every scrap. My most cherished possessions are the comforters my grandmother made out of the wool suits belonging to my grandfather and uncle, quilts she made with friends from her quilting bee and the ones I remember seeing on beds in her home.
I enjoy the traditional quilt patterns and this one mimics the pattern of the quilt my Grandmother gave me when I graduated from high school. Grandma would take nine stitches to every inch with her hand quilting. I have only mastered seven.

Cross-Stitch
ABOUT THE ARTIST AND ARTWORK
I have been cross-stitching for 30 years. The types of designs I like change throughout the years. My current focus is on historical reproductions and primitive Adam & Eve samplers. Susan Singleton is a 1760 reproduction stitched by a 12 year-old girl. I designed the wedding portrait of my in-laws and it took 240 hrs to stitch. The Lord’s Prayer is one of my favorite pieces.
I primarily stitch large pieces but occasionally, want to start and finish something fast. The needlerolls are fun and quick to stitch with a variety of themes. They are also functional and can be used as pincushions. I also have quite a few ornaments hanging in my house.
