Board Meeting Report

January 30, 2001

  • Minutes of the 1-9-01 meeting were reviewed and approved.

  • Jim Brinkman, Chief Financial Officer, presented the financial reports and requests for collection action on accounts receivable. After discussion the reports and requests were approved.

  • Jeff Yarrow and Ron Bender met with the County Commission at a Commission meeting to review the lease agreement for the health department and reported on the meeting. The Health Department will use space in Clay County Medical Center's 709 building until the new health department building is complete. The county approved the lease with the amount of monthly rent changed to be $1,350. The Board after discussion accepted the lease as modified. The lease is for a maximum period of 18 Months and was effective January 1, 2001.

  • Dr. Cary Murphy, Medical Staff President, attended the meeting and presented the thoughts of "Clay County Family Physicians" on the Clinic's needs for space. The clinic is already short of space due to the added practice of Dr. John Kelly and Dennis Sewell, P.A. The successful recruitment of Chance Williams, M.D. who will begin his practice on August 20 means more space is needed. After discussion of options, an ad-hoc planning committee was formed to consider and investigate possible solutions. The committee will consist of Board Member Sandy Fox, Ron Bender, Ray Frigon, and Dr. Murphy. Other additions to the committee may be made.

  • The Board authorized Ron Bender to seek bid proposals on a new station wagon to be used by Meadowlark Hospice. The hospice has recently expanded its coverage to include all of Cloud and Republic counties in addition to Clay, Washington, Marshall, and Dickinson counties and part of Riley County. Meadowlark Hospice is a division of Clay County Medical Center and currently owns one 1996 Ford Taurus wagon. An additional similar sized vehicle is needed.

  • Ron Bender reported on a community relations project that is under way. Clay County Medical Center has arranged for several hundred tickets to the Kansas State University Women's basketball game with Nebraska Saturday, February 17. The game features Nicole Ohlde of Clay Center and is the last Saturday home game of the season. Clay County Medical Center and the Clay Center Area Catbackers in cooperation with KSU sponsor the promotion. The goal is to support Nicole and K-State and to say thanks to the community. Tickets will be free and will be available at the Clay County Medical Center business office.

  • The next Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 8p.m.
