The Johnsonville Big Taste Grill is coming to Clay Center for the first time ever and helping raise money for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The"World's Largest Touring Grill" will be at Ray's IGA, 722 W. Crawford, on Thursday, May 17, between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Volunteers will serve a bratwurst dinner that includes chips, potato salad, cookies, and a drink for $3.00. In addition to the dinner, an auction will take place at 6:00 p.m. Items in the auction include a Dale Earnhardt replica car hood and pedal car. All proceeds from the dinner and auction will benefit the upcoming Relay for Life.
The Johnsonville Big Taste Grill weighs more than 53,000 pounds and extends 65 feet in length. It can cook more than 750 bratwurst at one time, or approximately 2,500 per hour.
Sponsors for the event include Ray's IGA, Johnsonville Foods, KCLY, Coca-Cola, Earth Grains/Rainbo Baking Company, Frito-Lay, and Orval Kent salads. Dick Edwards Auto Center is also supporting the event and making it fun for children by renting the inflatable Kirby the Catepillar.
The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is a fun-filled, family event that brings the community together to raise money for research, education, advocacy, and service programs. This year's Clay County Relay for Life will take place August 10 at the Otto Unruh Stadium in Clay Center.
