CNA STUDENT FIGHTING HODGKIN'S LYMPHOMA
June 22, 2010 by Linda Underwood
Malakai Rowland fought Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and won at age 15, only to have to do battle again at age 19. Malakai graduated from CCCHS last May, and was training as a CNA at Clay County Medical Center when cancer struck again. His plans to become a Pediatric Oncology nurse are temporarily on hold while he prepares for a stem cell transplant in the near future. The first treatments Malakai has received have not done the job, so he is now starting a new, stronger round of chemo to hopefully fight this awful disease again. He's undergoing these chemo treatments at Children's Mercy in Kansas City so he will be strong enough for his stem cell transplant.
While he is covered under his mother's insurance plan, there is a high deductible to meet, and the medication he needs, as well as the mileage and gas is not covered under this plan.
A fundraiser is being held at Ray's Apple Market on June 24th & 25th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on June 26th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We will be serving bratwursts for $2.00 each. An on-air auction will also be held on KCLY, 100.9 FM beginning at 1:00 p.m. on June 25th. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Republican River Chapter #30307 is graciously providing $500 in matching funds for this event.
Anyone wishing to donate to Malakai can do so by sending it to: Kaifest, %Union State Bank, P. O. Box 518, Clay Center, Ks 67432-0518. Anyone wishing to help with this fundraiser, or donate items to the auction, please call Linda Underwood at 785-632-0369 (cell) or 785-632-6233 (home) after 6:00 p.m.
Please give this fundraiser your prayerful consideration. Please keep Malakai and his family in your prayers as he once again continues to fight this horrible disease. Looking forward to seeing you there.
